The Name : Calm Before The Storm
The Name will play at the Dithmarscher Rock Festival, Marne, Ostholstein, Germany, this summer of 2011.
THE NAME BIO
The band was formed by singer and guitarist Mark Strobel, who enlisted the help of guitarist/Bassist Andy Turner to get the project started in West London in 1981. Recruiting keyboarder Steve Bull and after auditions guitarist Steve Crittall, drums Brian Gatens, and bassist Steve Lamb. The band THE NAME started playing the local club scene in and around London. They made a recording called The Driving Rain, and released their own 7" single which was played on the BBC radio one channel.
After two years of pubs and clubs, THE NAME signed to EMI publishing in London, around that time were already touring abroad in France and Germany. Later they played at Reading Festival and toured the U.K. with Faith No More. Turning down a record deal it would be five more years of touring without an album released. China Records in London signed the band and released the long awaited first album Dangerous Times.
The Name were on the radio, TV and their albums were stocked in every record store in the U.K. and in Germany, where it was also released. They played all the top clubs in London and also in Hamburg, the town that would become their second home. Grosse Freiheit, Docks, Markt Halle, etc. Performing at the Wissensee, Berlin with David Bowie.
After a complicated recording session for their second album Promise. The Name parted company with China Records and were under contract unable to perform for many years.
The band returns to the stage this year with live performances and a release of Dangerous Times Live, a complete live CD of all the best from THE NAME. Later this year THE NAME will begin recording their third studio album.
