Rec Room: The Best Way to Kill a Game

A bad game with an awful community is a recipe for disaster.

In all seriousness, this is actually a pretty important video to me that I've been wanting to make for nearly 2 years now. Over the past several years, Rec Room has continued to make awful decisions for the game that only hurt it and its community.

For those unaware, Rec Room is a free-to-play VR social game with in-game tools that let you play and create “rooms” for others to enjoy. The game is available on pretty much any platform you can think of: PC/Steam, Oculus/Meta Quest, Xbox, Mobile, Switch, and the list goes on.

I love the game a lot, but there's no doubt the game has taken a turn to UGC to compete with other games trying to bank on the irrelevant “Metaverse” craze. Roblox, Fortnite, VRChat, Horizon Worlds, and probably more. Along with that, the devs have lost their entire vision for what the game originally wanted to be, the addition of creator compensation only poisoned the content seen in the game, the community is one of the worst I've seen in any game, Rec Room is incredibly unstable and unoptimized, and they even tried marketing the game to children. This game has lost so much of its soul over the years that dozens of veteran players have had it with Rec Room and have since quit playing the game.

Guess this game ain't for me anymore.
