Normally there was a concept that lazy eye is treatable only till 7 years or 12 years of age. Of late there have been various studies which have proven that it is treatable till a minimum of 17 years of age. So the answer to the question is yes, lazy eye is treatable even in teenagers. In fact even after 17 years of age, we try to treat the lazy eye and we are successful. The most important thing if you are treating it after 7 years of age is aggressive treatment, in the sense usually lazy eye is treated by giving appropriate spectacles, which is refractive correction, and by closing one of the eye, which is called as occlusion therapy. In the younger age group this occlusion therapy can be given as a part time treatment also. However if the person is more than 7 years of age or 12 years of age, what we recommend is full time occlusion therapy. Usually this works out if there are no problems in the eye. I would still advise you to contact an ophthalmologist before you start this treatment.
