Adron - "Amanecer" (Jeanette & Pic-Nic)

Here's a mostly-live (except for some synth bass and keys, as a treat) version of Jeanette's "Amanecer" (1968). This tune is actually off the first eponymous album with her band Pic-Nic. Earlier this month I served on a jury that maybe changed my life a little bit. We ruled on a heartbreaking, horrifying case where a kid, 23 at the time, I think, was hit and killed by a train because a police officer chose the edge of the train platform as the place to perform a balance-compromising search on him. The kid was stopped for failing to pay a $1.75 metro fare. I haven't been able to stop thinking about his mother; her face is etched into my memory now. She was there through the whole trial (including when we had to go painstakingly through the video footage); I don't know how she survived it. But I felt so much for this brave, heartbreaking mama. Some people truly get ground to smithereens in this country. Even though we ruled in her favor, plus damages, I still wish we could have done more for her. This song, as clumsily as I sing it, is for that beautiful mom. It describes a kind of peace that I wish for her.
