A Once Lost Treasure Now unearthed Gladiator School detected In Austria

http://www.treasurebone.blogspot.com In Austria, a gladiator school - complete with training area, training dummy and even a cemetery for those killed during training has recently been located.

Particles of dust lay suspended in the air for but a second as its peaceful drift is interrupted by the violent clang and spark of blade against blade. Suddenly the dust whirls in to a miniature funnel as it mimics the whirlwind movements of the two men pitted in a deadly gladiatorial dance of death. The ball has come to an end and one man stands victorious whilst the other lay prone, on the sun baked arena floor, the dry dusty platform drinks the crimson fluid flowing from the defeated man like a modern day tissue paper soaks up spilled cherry kool-aid.

Archeologists have discovered a large, well preserved Roman Gladiator School in Austria. The site is east of the modern day capital, Vienna. There are thick walls around the compound and 40 small cells for the fighters. There is also a large training area and a large bathing area in the Carnuntum ruins. One of the more distinctive features is a large wooden pole in the center of the training area that the gladiators used as a training dummy. Archeologists have also discovered what they believe to be a cemetery outside the walls of the school, used for gladiators who were killed during training.

So far, the layout of the area reveals it to be a cross between a barracks and prison. Most gladiators were convicted criminals or prisoners of war, and most always slaves.

All of this information and discovery and not a single shovel has pierced the earth yet. Archeologists have been using radar imagery to peer through the soil and see what lie beneath. Experts have not yet set a date to begin excavation, saying they need time to settle on plan that conserves as much as possible.

The school is a small part of an important city tying Rome and her distant Asian borders to to her central and European lands. 1700 years ago this city was a major military and trading outpost that was inhabited by approximately 50,000 people.

On terms of importance and structure officials have said that this school rivals famous Ludus Magnus, the largest of Gladiator Schools in Rome. Erwin Proell, Lower Austrian provincial governor said "This is a world sensation, in the true meaning of the word"

The school sits on a site that is so large that less than 1% of the entire site has been excavated even though digging began round about 1870.
