Like many hand tool woodworkers, I've got a mild obsession with vintage woodworking tools. They're incredibly important in our craft and frankly, they're just as good if not better than a lot of modern day tools. Fun fact: most antique or vintage chisels, and vintage tools in general, are made with harder, better quality steel than what's available at the big box store today. Because of that, tool restoration is more important now than ever in my opinion. In this video, we'll go over how to restore rusty chisel and chisel restoration by beginning with tool restoration rust removal, sharpening a chisel on a waterstone, sharpening a chisel with a honing guide, how to make a chisel handle, how to refinish a chisel handle, and ultimately how to refinish a chisel. This video is more than just how to restore a chisel or how to fix a chisel, but goes step by step in making a timber framing slick, a prize in vintage woodworking hand tools. At the end of the day, with just a few simple tools, time, and determination, vintage chisel restoration becomes easy and rusty chisel restoration will become second nature.
