How to Make an Origami Pumpkin

HOW TO MAKE AN ORIGAMI PUMPKIN // Fall is here and it’s a great time to make an origami pumpkin! Use this fall activity for your remote teaching. If your students are learning remotely at home, send them the link and they can create their own Halloween origami.

So now that it's fall and close to Halloween, it's a great time to do some creative origami. So today I'm bringing in an origami specialist, Barbara Pearl. For those of you who don't know me. My name is Elizabeth Peterson and I am the host of The Inspired Classroom, providing resources for teachers.
Today, I'm excited to bring this resource to you that you can share with your students as well. Today, we're going to be making a little pumpkin out of origami paper.

And if you don't have origami paper, don't worry, we're going to cover the bases on that as well.

If you don’t have origami paper, Barbara will show you how to make a 6” x 6” piece to use.

Let Barbara show you how to make an origami pumpkin!

Don’t forget to decorate your pumpkin when you’re done.

Benefits of Origami ~

What I love about creating an origami pumpkin is that it wraps up a lot of different things in one activity:

--Hand-Eye coordination and fine motor skills
--Mind-FOLD-ness (as Barbara likes to say!)
--Math concepts
--Creativity (as you make your pumpkin unique)
--Writing (use the pumpkin as a character for a story or poem)
--Songs and dramatic play (use the pumpkins as puppet for storytelling)

So, how did your pumpkin come out!? I hope you had a lot of fun creating your own little pumpkin that you can use to decorate for the fall!

I remember making these little balloons in 3rd, 4th and 5th grade like crazy! So, once you get started I know you’re not going to want to stop.

You can make them into all different colors and sizes and make them into a variety of different things: balls, decorations, mobiles! So get creating and KEEP creating!

My name’s, Elizabeth. Make sure you keep getting inspired so you can be inspiring to your students!
