How Did North Korea Became A Total Dictatorship?

How North Korea Became a Totalitarian
Dictatorship: A Brief History
After World War Il, the Korean Peninsula was split
between a Soviet-controlled North and a
US-occupied South. In 1948, with Soviet backing,
Kim Il-sung became the leader of North Korea and
established a militarized, isolated state. After his
death in 1994, his son Kim Jong-il took power,
leading the country into economic decline and
severe famine. Kim Jong-il's death in 2011 brought
Kim Jong-un to power, who has focused on nuclear
weapons development. The regime's oppressive rule
and isolation have continued, leaving little hope for
political change.
