Give love, spread hope: Seoul's poorest slum, '104 village'

The spring season is finally being felt here in Seoul but there is a place where its warmth does not yet seem to reach -- the last of Seoul’s shanty towns, in Junggye-dong, Nowon-gu, known locally as "104 Moon Village."

To Seoul's poorest neigborhood, volunteer workers from various professions come visit this area every week to show compassion and love to residents, mostly elders, alienated from modern society and still living in dire poverty while high-rise apartments stand nearby, a few steps away from their shacks.

The Korea Times is Korea's most influential and the oldest independent English-language daily. We deliver the latest information on all events and stories taking place in Korea.
