I loved her first - Heartland

Me again ... sharing a quote, a special emotional songs that always gives me a lump in my throat & joy in my heart! and the ramblings of my mind ....

"Any man can be a Father but it takes someone special to be a dad" ~ Anne Geddes.

I owe my dad a huge thank you! Sure, I need to thank him for all those years of paying my bills, fixing my bikes, and providing a shoulder to cry on. But this year I realized that his contributions to my childhood were much more than that. He has influenced who I am at the very core of my being.
I grew up as Daddy's Little Girl. If I had a problem that needed fixing or a question that needed answering, he was the one I ran to. He counselled me through everything from Algebra homework as a high school student to career choices as a young adult. He always expected that I do my best in whatever I did, and he believed I could succeed in anything I put my mind to. As a result, I learned to hold myself to those same standards. He always showed me unconditional love, which helped me learn to love myself.
As I was growing up, my father also modelled how a woman should be treated. He lavished my mum with love and respect. As a result, I grew to expect nothing less than that from the men I dated. Dad also modelled the qualities that I would want to one day find in a man. He was/is a living picture of goodness, honesty, integrity, and responsibility.
Thanks Dad !!

A Note to Fathers
If you are a father, please consider the important role that you play in your family. Your daughters are forming views of themselves based on how you relate to them, and your sons are watching you to learn how to act as a man.
