Classic Match: Ireland v England 2007 | RBS 6 Nations
Ireland welcomed England to Croke Park for the very first time in 2007 as their traditional home ground Lansdowne Road was being redeveloped. The home side had won one and lost won, having conceded a last minute try to France in Round 2 resulting in a 17-20 loss to Les Bleus. England arrived to Dublin looking to make it three wins from three, having already beaten Scotland and Italy.
The match began as a clash of the fly-halfs, as both Jonny Wilkinson and Ronan O'Gara traded penalties.
The first try came after sustained pressure from Ireland. Peter Stringer fired the ball wide and with some fantastic handling from both Gordon D'Arcey and Brian O'Driscoll, Girvan Dempsey went over. David Wallace followed up with Ireland's second try, powering over from short.
England hit back in the second half, with winger David Strettle barging his way over in the corner after some nice hands from Mathew Tait and Josh Lewsey.
Ireland scored what many now see as one of the iconic tries when Shane Horgan was on the end of a fabulous cross-field kick from O'Gara with the winger jumping highest in the contest with Lewsey.
Ireland scored their fourth and final try when sub scrum-half Isaac Boss intercepted a pass from the back of a scrum to run 40m under the posts.
