Skeg Parts and End Pour - Petrel Play SG - E16

Bill and I assemble parts for the skeg and do the end pour for the Petrel Play SG kayak. We are building the Petrel Play SG kayak design from a kit by Chesapeake Light Craft (CLCBoats.com) https://bit.ly/3uRnqzA.

In this series we will take you through a step-by-step process of converting a pile of wood bits in to a beautiful, functional kayak.

Working on installing the skeg (retractable fin) on the Petrel Play kayak kit from Chesapeake Light Craft
Summary:
* Shaped and fiberglassed the skeg blade to make it more hydrodynamic
* Made the skeg box that the skeg retracts into out of plywood spacers
* Constructed the control slot/trough that the skeg control knob sits in on the deck
* Did an "endpour" by damming up the ends of the hull and filling with thickened epoxy to strengthen and allow installing deck rigging
* Discussed the pros and cons of having a skeg - provides another control input but takes up space and adds weight
* Next steps are finishing the skeg box assembly, skeg control knob, and installing the coaming
