Jaeger-LeCoultre | REVERSO LARGE – Chrono24

The Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso is one of the most popular JLC models of all time.
As the story goes, during the winter of 1930-1931, Swiss businessman and watch collector César de Trey attended a polo match between British army officers while traveling through India. One of these officers had a broken watch. The officer challenged de Trey to create a robust watch that could withstand the heavy impacts experienced during a polo match.
De Trey brought the idea up with his friend, Jacques David LeCoultre. Since LeCoultre didn't produce cases himself, he commissioned a company called Jaeger S.A. to create a reversible case for him. Jaeger than asked French designer René-Alfred Chauvot, the inventor of the reversible case, to come up with the design.
So, on March 4, 1931, René-Alfred Chauvot officially registered the Reverso, which be flipped over to protect the watch's crystal.
