🔨Craftling: IRON GUITAR
I was curious about the sound characteristics and the playability of a guitar made entirely of metal.
The project brought clarity to my questions. I'm not a big metalworking master and welding professionals are sure to throw their hands up in horror, but it was really fun and instructive to build it. The biggest advantage is, that waiting times for glue are simply eliminated. In many aspects, metal is easier to work with than wood. However, the welding caused many deformations due to the temperature, which gave me a lot of headaches.
The tone is full and balanced. I never thought this. I have installed a P90 neck pickup and a bridge humbucker (both Duesenberg). I know these pickups well and they sound in my ears at least as good as on a wooden guitar. I placed the recording device (Zoom H4n) directly in front of the box and took it over without editing. The sound is only reproduced roughly, but its ok. Maybe I'll do a direct "shoot out" between the wood guitar and the metal guitar in an extra video. I made nearly the same guitar out of wood in this video:

The biggest disadvantage of the guitar is of course the weight: 9 kg (18 lbs) ... cough ... This is an uncomfortable amount even when playing on the leg. Hanging on the strap I'm happy if it does not break my neck.😅
So what do you think?
