2023 marks the 75th anniversary of the creation of the National Health Service. Despite its longevity, the NHS has faced insurmountable pressure in the last few years, including, of course, from the Covid-19 pandemic. This winter was also the first time NHS nurses have conducted a UK-wide strike.

In light of the NHS’ continued challenges, both structural and fiscal, we believe now is the perfect time to debate the founding principle of Nye Bevan’s National Health Service. Is now the time to substantially reform or even turn towards a European-based model?

Can the NHS meet the needs of the people?
