Mission, Culture, and Inclusive Community

Many institutions today are deepening their commitment to equity and inclusion, but Naropa is taking this effort one step further by unifying social justice with sustainability and contemplative practice in its new division Mission, Culture, and Inclusive Community (MCIC).

In response to the resurgence of the Black Lives Matter movement, Naropians recognized the emergent need for more JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) work in the world today.

In true Naropa fashion, they rooted into contemplative practice and traditions to energize their commitment to JEDI development. As they looked toward creating a more beautiful and just world, the inseparability of environmental sustainability was quickly realized as well.

The division of Mission, Culture, and Inclusive Community was created to house the Naropa Purpose, Mission, Vision, and Values – an integrated model unique within higher ed that is guided by social justice, sustainability, and contemplative practice.
