(15 minute guide) "The Swan" on chromatic harmonica - Philip Achille
Quick guide to learning, playing and interpreting "The Swan" on chromatic harmonica.
In this lesson we go over how to appreach learning this piece, as well as discussing how to go from simply playing the notes in sequence to playing the piece with a pleasing and expressive feel. Learn not only how to make this piece sound like a swan but also how to apply that knowledge to other peices you wish to tackle.
A surprising amount of music is simply knowing "how to approach" something. So often as musicians we hear something and think "I like how that sounds". We then try to copy that with the hope of incorporating it into our own playing.
However sometimes without knowing how someone came to a conclusion, or what the thought process is behind why they play the way they do it can be hard.... Here's the kicker though, it's much easier than you think and often it's a simple thing that just isn't obvious or easy to figure out.
I'll share with you things that even the most tehcnically able players don't do and hopefully you'll learn the true meaning of it's not what you play but how you play it!
The Swan is a piece of music originally composed for cello by french composer Camille Saint-Saëns. It actually comes from a suit called "The Carnoval of the Animals" (this being the piece dedicated to a swan, It was composed in 1886 and in the original version the cello is accompanied by two pianos!
