Terrific and tumultuous ethnic new year celebrations in Guizhou

During the 10th lunar month of the year, the Miao people ring in their New Year with much more than a bang! Over several days, Leishan county in Guizhou Province erupts into terrific and tumultuous festivity. The celebrations include grand galas, family feasts, drinking and even bullfighting, all done in the traditional Miao way. The Miao is one of China’s 55 officially recognized minority groups with a population of almost 9 million.
