Among Dead or Alive in British Superbike Crash
#britishsuperbike #crash #motorsport
Today, we bring you a story that has shaken the heart of the motorsport world — a devastating reminder of the risks that brave athletes take every time they line up on the grid.
On what began as a day of excitement and competition at the legendary Oulton Park Circuit, a catastrophic 11-bike collision during a British Superbike Championship race has ended in tragedy. Two lives were lost in the incident — those of Owen Jenner, a rising British star just 21 years old, and Shane Richardson, a well-respected veteran rider from New Zealand, aged 29. This incident marks one of the darkest days in recent British Superbike history.
Among those caught in the chaos was fellow competitor Morgan McLaren-Wood, who narrowly escaped the crash with minor injuries. Though physically spared, the emotional toll is evident, as McLaren-Wood bravely spoke to BBC Sport, recounting the terrifying moments leading up to the crash.
“I was maybe a row behind Shane and Owen,” he explained. “Maybe five or six bikes back — it could’ve been more. All I remember is pure chaos. Bikes flying everywhere. Riders going down. There was nowhere to go, nowhere to escape. It’s such a narrow track with almost no run-off area. It all happened so quickly — there was no time to react, no time to make a decision.”
