Was Nas’ “Where Are They Now?” The BLUEPRINT For Mass Appeal’s Current Campaign?

Nas’ “Where Are They Now?” from Hip Hop Is Dead may have been one of the most misunderstood hip hop records of the 2000s.

While many fans and artists embraced the record and its remixes, others viewed the title as disrespectful, almost like Nas was implying certain pioneers had fallen off or become irrelevant.

In this video, I break down the real meaning behind “Where Are They Now?”, the reactions from parts of the hip hop community, why some artists may have taken offense, and how the song actually predicted today’s conversations about preserving hip hop culture, legacy artists, and remembering the pioneers.
