It is no secret that many Pokémon are inspired by creatures in real life. some of them are very
common but there are some Pokémon that are inspired by lesser known animals. Let’s have a
look at 10 pokemon that actually exist in real life. You’d be surprised to see what reshiram and
Magikarp are based on, so hang tight!
Number 10. Muk – Blobfish
if you are a pokemon fan, which you probably are, there is a high chance you don’t like Muk as
it seems sticky and looks like it’s always melting. There cannot be a real-life creature that looks
as unsettling as Muk, right? Well, there is! Muk looks very much like blobfish. Many Internet
users will likely be familiar with the Blobfish, as it's notorious for being one of the uglier and
laughable members of the animal kingdom once it has been taken out of the ocean. Its big
bulbous "nose" flops over its down-turned mouth, and its skin is slick, smooth, and veiny. The
reason for the fish's gelatinous appearance is the result of its density being less than that of water,
which allows it to cruise above the ocean floor at depths up to 3,900 ft. when removed from the
water, it looks like a sad muk, Blobfish is a very rare creature because it is found very deep
inside the ocean. Muk may not a rare pokemon in the series, but it is very hard to find in the
pokemon game. We are sure the pokemon is based on blobfish.
Number 9.) Drowzee - tapir
We have another shock of a lifetime for you! Drowzee was not partly inspired by an elephant,
but a tapir! Like Drowzee, they have a short nose trunk. They can be found in the jungles of

Central and South America as well as Southeast Asia. Also, like Drowzee, they are similar to a
pig in shape.

In terms of its abilities though, Drowzee are similar to Baku from Japanese folklore. Artistic
depictions of Baku also share a lot of physical traits with tapir. Its evolved from, Hypno, also has
tapir-like qualities. However, Hypno and Drowzee are often overlooked by fans since their
powers are a little unsettling and well…creepy

Number 8.) reshiram - poodle moth
In the Pokemon series, reshiram a huge dragon but you’d be surprised to know that this pokemon
is actually based on a small insect from Venezuela, known as the Venezuelan poodle moth. This
fuzzy creature is equal parts adorable and puzzling, making you question the line between reality
and science fiction. It is a new species of moth that was discovered in 2009, and right after its
discovery, it was used as a character in pokemon. Both have similar features, for example, the
spectacular wings and the wide fluffy fur they have on their bodies. This comparison is fitting
because the moth itself is believed to be rectifying, much like reshiram in pokemon

Number 7.) Manaphy – Clione
Manaphy is a Legendary Pokémon, generally obtainable only from the Pokémon Ranger games,
or from events. Breeding Manaphy will result in Phione, which has a similar appearance. Both of
these Pokémon are based upon a certain tiny creature much loved by the Japanese: an eerily
beautiful sea slug called a clione. That's right; Manaphy and Phione are slugs. Clione are often

referred to as sea angels, and it isn't difficult to see why. These small, semi-transparent creatures
move around with the help of wing-like extensions to the body, making them look like a
silhouetted angel. In addition, the internal organs, colored a pinkish-orange, are visible through
the skin. Strangely, this has the effect of making the clione seem even more angel-like,
contrasting as it does against the bluish-white of the wings. Both Manaphy and Phione
incorporate many elements of the clione into their designs. The glowing red 'jewels' on their
bodies are inspired by the creatures' red internal organs, and both also possess the distinctive
wings and antennae.
Number 6.) Pikachu – Pika mouse
some Pokémon fans might be shocked to find out what exactly inspired our favorite Pokémon,
Pikachu. Like many of the characters in the game, Pikachu is loosely inspired by real-life
animals — in this case, the American pika. Not only do they almost have the same names, but
also similar personality features. Both have high pitched voices and rarely ever travel alone. Now
we aren’t saying that pika travels around the world, fighting other animals with his human best
friend, but who knows, right. The
pika lives in the high altitude, windswept, mountainous
regions of the Western United States and Canada.
