The Museum of Modern Art of the Dominican Republic, designed and built by the Dominican architect José Miniño; was inaugurated on December 15, 1976 in the "Plaza de la Cultura complex," an urban sector of gardens and buildings, exclusively built for cultural purposes. In 1992, during the government of President Joaquín Balaguer, it changed its name to Museum of Modern Art.
