Do you speak SPANISH? 🇨🇷📝

Well, I know one thing for sure, I know how to peel a yucca (cassava)! In all seriousness, I get this question A LOT! And the answer is Heck, YES I speak Spanish, more than English at this point!

I am one of those people who firmly believes that if you're going to live in a different country, you need to make it a priority to learn the language! Can you survive in Costa Rica without knowing any Spanish? Kind of. Should you live in Costa Rica without knowing any Spanish? Of course, the answer is no, not really! You will not experience the country in the same way, if you can't speak to everyone, about anything!

I didn't take any formal language classes, I used a couple of apps before moving here that didn't help all too much, and I still use a translator for certain words after 5+ years. But the most important thing is to just get out there and try. Yes, you will be embarrassed. Yes, you will say stupid things and probably be made fun of. But you know what? All we can do is try our best, and maybe even laugh at ourselves. It will always be appreciated if you try (and potentially applauded by 200+ nationals while your face turns into a tomato with a microphone in front of it) 🍅
