Morris Garages (MG) Motors, a Chinese-owned British automotive company, has launched its first car in Pakistan. The MG HS is a subcompact crossover SUV with a sporty exterior and stylish interior. Internationally, the car comes in four variants, but only one is available in Pakistan. MG HS is a premium SUV competing with a number of other new entrants in the SUV segment of the local Pakistani market.

MG Motors acquired the greenfield status under the Automotive Development Policy 2016-20. Javed Afridi, the CEO of Haier Pakistan, partnered with the company to set up a vehicle assembly plant in Pakistan. MG Pakistan, then, debuted in the local market with MG HS in November 2020. The company did not host a launch event and casually started selling the SUV in the market. Still, this first MG car in Pakistan received an overwhelming response from the public.



MG Pakistan is selling imported CBU units of the MG HS. The company has plans to start the local production of CKB units sometime in the mid of 2021.

Exterior
MG has designed this SUV with the brand’s sporting heritage in mind. Everything about the exterior of MG HS makes a statement. The front yield grill has the largest MG logo. The rear of the car has twin tailpipes and an aluminum lower bumper with a sporty finish. Stylish LED daytime running lights and bi-function projector headlights uplifts the overall look of the car.

Interior
The HS has a spacious and comfortable interior for 4 passengers. All four leather seats are heated and electrically adjustable. Then, there is the leather steering wheel with a sport mode management button. The car also has front and rear electric windows and a 10-inch color touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality.

The SUV comes with a 1.5L GDI turbo-charged engine that produces 160hp with maximum 250Nm torque.

Colors
MG HS comes in four metallic color options — New Pearl White, Surfing Blue, Phantom Red, and Black.

Competition
The HS SUV has a tough competition with Kia Sportage, Hyundai Tucson, Proton X70, and DFSK Glory 580 Pro.

Specifications
