23-03 - B - The difference between 3/4 & 6/8
#basslessons
From a purely arithmetical point of view, there is no discernible difference between 3/4 and 6/8 - Simplify 6/8 and you get 3/4.
Not in music, because there is a crucial difference, which is related to the subdivision of bars and the resulting rhythmic accents.
Six eighth notes are either grouped into three groups of two as in the 3/4 time or they are grouped in two groups of three as in 6/8 time.
The bars are counted and emphasized correspondingly differently. In contrast to the 3/4 time with three metronomic beats (3 quarters subdivided into 3 x 2 eighth notes), the 6/8 time has only two metronomic beats each subdivided into three eighths notes (2 dotted quarters subdivided into 2x3 eighth notes).
In this video I would like to show you the different metric weighting of 3/4 and 6/8 time by playing identical rhythm figures in both time signatures.

"Basscination" - The Complete Online Bass Method:
If you feel too old to start learning the bass or you started early in your life and then stopped due to job, career, family etc. and now want to pick it up again here’s the right course for you.
I’m a bass teacher for now over 35 years, have written three best-selling bass teaching textbooks in Germany and run my own musicschool since 2007.
The “Basscination” bass course is a structured, organized course that takes you step by step from absolute beginner to advanced. With only 30 minutes practice time for 3-4 times a week you can make noticeable and steady progress.
The complete “Basscination” course is devided into 3 modules with 12 units each. In the beginner module 1 the focus is set to the four fundamental pillars of good bass playing:
1. Playing technique for right and left hand
2. Fretboard knowledge
3. Music reading
4. Rhythm
5. Song workouts
Each unit contains interrelated exercises to these topics with several of my unique videos with moving cursors, a multipage instruction e-Book with explanations, notation and additional informations and corresponding backing tracks to play along with.
No more stupid boring exercises!
Every exercise is made into a little musical etude that is fun to play and sounds like a real song. Thus practicing becomes fun and motivating.
