Too Much Time On My Hands by Styx recreated as part of the Narfsounds Favorite Covers Set 14 for Yamaha Montage M, MODX M, Montage, MODX and MODX+.

This performance makes use of 2 scenes and incorporates multiple sound effect samples alongside custom synth sounds derived from my Oberheim OB-X8.

The intro uses a collection of sound effect samples triggered from C1, C#1, D1 and D#1. Using the sustain pedal allows these effects to ring out naturally while preparing for the main riff.

The left side of the keyboard features the main Oberheim style synth riff along with the OB-X8 dive bomb effect triggered from A3. On the right side are the supporting synth parts used throughout the song, including the upper lead line that follows the guitar riff.

Scene 2 replaces the synth layers with an electric piano sound. The Super Knob brings in brass layers during the break before the guitar solo, and a control pedal is recommended for hands free operation.

C6 triggers the ending sample used to finish the performance.

This performance combines synthesis, custom samples and live performance controls to recreate the feel of the original recording while remaining practical for stage use.
