INCREDIBLE WOODEN BOXES THAT ARE FULL OF SECRETS

Kagen Sound is a woodworking artist who creates amazing wooden puzzle boxes that are full of secrets!

His projects have received grand prize and people's choice awards in the international NobYoshigahara puzzle design competition. Kagen Sound is acknowledged as a master craftsperson by the Karakuri Creation Group, the world’s only guild of secret box makers based in Japan.

0:19 - THE BLOCK BOX;

This puzzle box is made from sapele and maple and each sliding tile on it is cut with a miniature tongue and groove. This wooden puzzle is really difficult and requires more than 80 moves to solve it at its hardest setting.

The rectangle on the boxe's top dimensions of 13 x 21. 13 and 21 is a special pair of numbers because it is part of the Fibonacci sequence.

0:29 - CIRCLE MAZE BOX;

0:58 - LOTUS BOX;

This amazing box took many years to produce. Eight rings rotate on the top of the Lotus Box and generate many different beautiful patterns. Hidden about the box are clues to the devising of the special patterns. If you recreate one of these - the first of four compartments will be unlocked.

1:22 - 1,000-STEP PUZZLE BOX;

1:41 - DODECAHEDRON BOX;

This puzzle box won the two top awards at the IPP design competition. It operates entirely on rotational movement. Each side of it spins. If you align every side just right so that a pattern matches up around the whole dodecahedron, then the lid opens up on a hinge. All but two faces need to be rotated to unlock what’s inside.

2:11 - PINWHEEL BOX;

There are 22 separate sliding panels on this puzzle box. Each panel slides in a different direction at a 45-degree angle to the sides of the box. Four panels move simultaneously, compressing the hole in the middle. Each side of the box must be moved in this way in sequence to unlock the lid.

2:33 - MAZE BURR PUZZLE BOX;

Each side of the Maze Burr box has a 3 x 3 maze cut with square corners, with a central square cut peg attached to light wood plates. Each light wood plate shifts in one direction while the maze above it shifts orthogonal to it. By moving a maze, you unlock a portion of another maze on a different side of the box. Only after shifting 12 sides of this box many times will it open.

3:01 - TWISTY PENCIL BOX;

The Twisty Pencil Box stores pencils and even has a sharpener built in to it. To unlock the secret compartment, you must clear your mind of all premonitions.
