Climbing Guide for Melrose Boulders - The Best Outdoor Bouldering Spot for Beginners in San Diego

Looking to get into outdoor climbing, and you happen to be around northern San Diego? Make sure to check out Melrose Boulders. This video guide will show you what to prepare and how to get there, and also demonstrate a few beginner-friendly climbs.

Considering the convenience of parking, the short approach to the boulders, and the variety/abundance/safe-landing of beginner-friendly climbs, this is probably the best place to start your first outdoor climbing experience in San Diego County.

However, this area isn’t maintained by anyone and unfortunately the trash/graffiti there might make some people uncomfortable. My suggestion is that make sure to go there with a few friends and be there early, so you have enough sunlight. Personally, I have never had any bad experiences of climbing at Melrose Boulders.
