■NASA astronaut Sunita “Suni” Williams achieved a historic milestone, by breaking the spacewalking record previously held by former astronaut Peggy Whitson (60 hours and 21 minutes).
■Sunita Williams total spacewalking time record - 62 hours and six minutes.
■This mission was part of Expedition 72; marking the 92nd US spacewalk.
■Williams was accompanied by fellow astronaut
Butch Wilmore.
■It was Williams’ ninth spacewalk.
■Purpose of Spacewalk:- Removing degraded hardware, collecting microorganism samples.
■Wilmore and Williams are currently scheduled to return on the Crew 9 mission at the end of March 2025, completing nearly 300 days in space.
■S.Williams ranks fourth on NASA’s all-time spacewalking list.
■The record-breaking spacewalk lasted 5 hours and 26 minutes, beginning at 7:43 am ET and ending at 1:09 pm ET.
■Williams and Wilmore launched aboard Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft in June 2024 for an eight-day mission.
■Due to helium leaks and thruster malfunctions, NASA deemed the Starliner unsafe for their return.
■In 2012, Williams became the first person to complete a triathlon in space, using ISS exercise equipment.
