Washington DC Railfanning

In September 2017, I made a trip to the East Coast to chase trains. Here is part 1 of a 3 part series from this trip, starting with a flurry of passenger activity in and around the nation's capital, Washington DC! In this video, you will be treated to train after train entering and leaving Washington Union Station as well as the parade of Virginia Rail Express passenger trains that go to and from DC every weekday morning and evening. Special attention was given to inclusion of the Capitol Building as well as the Washington Monument, both of which made for spectacular backdrops for the fleet of VRE and Amtrak trains as well as the occasional CSX trains that daily pass in front of them. It was particularly entertaining to have been repeatedly asked if we were filming for "House of Cards" since one of the scenes from the the opening credits is taken from the bridge over the ex-RF&P main near L'enfant plaza, which is close to a key VRE station and has a stunning view of the US Capitol Building.
We hope you enjoy this diversion from the normal videos from Southern California! It certainly made for a great railfanning trip for us!
