New 2023 Honda CR-V - Next Generation Hybrid Compact SUV

Honda has unveiled the sixth generation of the CR-V globally. The popular crossover model will be offered with a choice of either a full hybrid or, for the first time in the European market, a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

The new Honda CR-V now has boxier, more angular styling, giving it a more rugged SUV-style appearance. They contrast with the laid-back lines of the outgoing car, and give the new Honda CR-V more assertiveness and presence.

The front of the new Honda CR-V is more upright, with a large grille boasting a bold Honda ‘H’ logo. Both new Honda CR-V e:HEV and e:PHEV models have their own bespoke grille design, so they can be differentiated at-a-glance. Slim headlights have a new LED daytime signature.

The upright tail lamps at the rear of the new Honda CR-V continue, but they too are crisper and more taut. They also have a distinctive LED signature, and the smoked red lenses give an upmarket look. Honda has toned down the use of chrome trim on the new CR-V, which instantly makes it look more contemporary.

Dimensionally, the new CR-V measures 4,694 mm in length, 1,865 mm in width, and 1,691 mm in height, and carries a wheelbase of 2,700 mm.

Inside, the new Honda CR-V has been transformed with, again, a much cleaner and more modern layout. The design is drawn from the new Honda Civic, compete with a full-length ‘hidden’ air vent running across the centre of the dashboard, Below this, pleasingly, sit a set of physical, tactile climate control buttons and knobs.

The new Honda CR-V has a freestanding infotainment touchscreen up to 9.0 inches in size, with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone mirroring. It’s the latest Honda system, which is much clearer and easier to use than the setup on the old CR-V. The new Honda CR-V also has a digital driver’s display.

The new Honda CR-V has a much larger boot, too. The new Honda CR-V e:HEV has 587 litres of space, while the e:PHEV version has an even greater 617-litre boot capacity.

The CR-V is available as a full hybrid or a model with plug-in hybrid drive for the first time in the European market. Both models feature a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder Atkinson cycle direct injection petrol engine that has been redesigned to improve efficiency, refinement and dynamic performance across the entire range. Power is delivered via an E-CVT transmission, and Honda claims a top speed of 193 km/h. Front-wheel drive is standard, but all-wheel drive is available as an option.
