Wrong-Way Driver Killed In Head-On Crash Into Bus

LOCATION: Loop-101 Northbound Near Thunderbird Road
CITY: Peoria
DETAILS: Shortly before 4 AM Sunday morning, DPS Troopers were informed of a report of a wrong-way driver traveling Southbound in the Northbound lanes on the Loop 101 North of Thunderbird Road.
Responding troopers were then notified that the wrong way driver had collided head-on with a large tour bus at high speed.
Peoria Fire Medical crews, AMR, Peoria Police, and several troopers quickly converged on the scene.
As units arrived they located several victims sustaining various injuries, including one of the front passengers of the bus who was ejected out of the front windshield.
Several of the victims were transported to local area hospitals in various conditions.
The adult male wrong way driver was transported in critical condition and later pronounced deceased at the hospital.
DPS established a hard closure for the northbound lanes of Loop 101 as they investigated the collision.
