Rafay MCP Server: Query Kubernetes Clusters, Pods & Add-ons with Claude Desktop
The Rafay MCP Server acts as a bridge that enables AI agents and LLM-powered tools — including Claude Desktop, Cursor, and Windsurf — to interact directly with the Rafay platform using natural language. Instead of navigating through multiple screens or APIs, platform teams can ask questions and retrieve environment information conversationally.
─────────────────────────────────
WHAT YOU'LL SEE IN THIS DEMO
✦ How to configure the Rafay MCP Server with Claude Desktop (API key, endpoint, project)
✦ List all clusters in a project with blueprint version, status, and Kubernetes version
✦ Query running pods in a specific namespace using Rafay's Zero Trust Kubectl (ZTK)
✦ Find all clusters running a specific add-on (OpenEBS) across all projects
─────────────────────────────────
WHY TEAMS USE THE RAFAY MCP SERVER
As platform teams scale, there's a growing need to quickly understand what's happening
across the environment. Common questions the Rafay MCP Server can answer:
- Which clusters are running a particular blueprint version?
- How many clusters have a specific add-on deployed?
- Where can I find a particular resource or configuration?
- How do I troubleshoot issues without navigating through multiple platform screens?
The Rafay MCP Server makes it easier to discover information and accelerate
troubleshooting workflows — all through simple natural language interaction.
─────────────────────────────────
HOW IT WORKS
The first version of the Rafay MCP Server supports four tools: rafay_list, rafay_get, rafay_execute, and one additional operation. These give AI agents structured access to Rafay platform resources including Clusters, Blueprints, Workloads, and Add-ons.
Configuration requires:
- RAFAY_API_KEY — for user authentication
- RAFAY_BASE_URL — your Rafay environment endpoint
- RAFAY_PROJECT — the default project context
─────────────────────────────────
WHAT IS MCP?
Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard that enables AI agents to securely connect to external tools and data sources. The Rafay MCP Server implements this standard to expose Rafay platform operations to any MCP-compatible AI client.
