Irish National Anthem Amhrán na bhFiann, by Emma Sophia, (Age 5)

This performance of the Irish National Anthem, Amhrán na bhFiann, is dedicated to the memory of all Irish people who have gone before us, in celebration of the centenary of the Irish Free State when the War of Independence ended in 1921. It is a song which celebrates not only the past, but the strength, character and resilience that makes Ireland the wonderful little nation that is loved and cherished across the globe.

We hope that this performance by 5 year old Emma Sophia will be a symbol that the youth of Ireland will continue to do great things in the name of our country, and that being Irish will continue to be a source of pride for our people, wherever they may call home. As the Irish saying goes, "ar scáth a chéile go maireann na ndaoine." (under the shelter of each other, the people survive). May we Irish always look out for each other and remain loyal to our roots. 💚

This music video was filmed on Spike Island, an island in Cork Harbour. Originally the site of a monastic settlement, Spike Island is dominated by an 18th-century bastion fort now named Fort Mitchel, and was formerly the world's largest prison. It is an incredible place to visit, abounding in history. To learn more about the history of the island, visit www.spikeislandcork.ie
