The Golden Age of Minerals - Sundays at the Westward Look - 2004

It was the Sunday Evening Event at the, relatively new, Westward Look Show. A panel of mineral experts, moderated by Steve Smale, were gathered to talk about their impressions of, "The Golden Age of Minerals." David Wilber. Peter Bancroft. Charlie Key. Bill Larson. Ed Swoboda.

All legendary in what they accomplished in their lives. A gathering of this caliber of panelists has never been assembled together since that time.

This is a film of that extraordinary night full of stories, advice, laughs and several lifetimes of experience with these giants of the mineral collecting world.

Join us for this newly remastered version of the film that really takes you into, “The Golden Age of Minerals.”

THE STORY BEHIND THIS FILM
This is as historic a film as BlueCap has ever produced - in fact, this film was made BEFORE BlueCap Productions was ever created. The year was 2004 and the Westward Look Show was in its 3rd year of operation. Dave and Kathy Waisman had created an event that eventually became known as, "Sundays at the Westward Look" and for 2004 he had a panel of mineral legends which included Steve Smale, David Wilber, Peter Bancroft, Charlie Key, Bill Larson and Ed Swoboda. These mineral titans spent the evening regaling the attendees all about their thoughts on, "The Golden Age of Minerals."

At the time of this event, I was an advertising executive working in Los Angeles but I took some time off to accompany my father to Tucson so that I could film the event. In the advertising world, I had recently created a faux-production company called Little Gnome Productions so that I could make some tongue-in-cheek commercials without claiming any responsibility for their creation. I ended up filming this project under the name of that production company (which, of course, was based in Nome, Alaska) and actually sold copies of the video on VHS tapes - which was the best publicly available media at the time.

In 2008 I re-released this film on DVD under the BlueCap Productions name but I never transferred it over to an online digital format until now. For the 2023 re-re-release of this title, I pulled the film out of archive, had one of my production computers re-render the film at 4K resolution and then re-compressed it to full HD quality - a process that took over a week and a half to complete.

I'm now posting this on BlueCap Productions' YouTube channel for everyone to enjoy free of charge.

This film represents a time capsule of some wonderful stories and knowledge that are now lost to us forever outside of the stories shared within this recording.

It is our sincere hope that you enjoy every moment of The Golden Age of Minerals.
