‘The French Haven’t Helped With Small Boat Crisis’ | France Back Away From Key Border Control Pledge

France is backing away from a key pledge to stop small boat crossings, as more migrants have arrived in the UK since Sir Keir Starmer took office than the entire population of Scarborough.

Official figures show 60,192 people have crossed the Channel since the election - about 127 per day. The number this year has already surpassed last year’s total of 36,816, reaching 36,954 so far.

Plans for French police to intercept dinghies within 300 metres of the coast - promised by President Emmanuel Macron - have been put on hold over fears of deaths at sea and legal risks.

Peter Cardwell speaks with Robert Bates from the Centre for Migration Control.
