We've been spending time living deep in the backcountry, over 11,000 feet in the mountains. Life out here is simple but demanding, where the weather shifts without warning, every calorie matters, and each day is tied to the rhythm of the land.
This video shares what it looks like to live in the wilderness during elk season: setting up camp, moving slowly through the high country, and learning what it means to place myself in the path of the animals that sustain us. The more I’ve learned, the more I’ve realized that in order for any of us to live, something else dies—no matter what we eat. Choosing to be part of that cycle, rather than turning away from it, has brought me closer to nature, and to myself.
Whether it’s gathering firewood, cooking simple meals, or walking ridges at sunrise, these days remind me how much presence and resilience it takes to live in balance with the wild.
