Is Convergent Epistemology just a form of coherence theory?

This video clarifies a key distinction. While coherence theory evaluates truth based on internal consistency within a system of beliefs, Convergent Epistemology evaluates how systems perform across multiple independent domains.

Coherence theory asks whether a system is internally consistent.

Convergent Epistemology asks whether that system remains coherent as independent domains — each with different methods, data, and standards of evaluation — converge under the same framework.

This introduces a critical difference:

Internal agreement can exist within a closed system. Cross-domain convergence requires alignment across distinct modes of interaction with reality.

This distinction is essential for understanding how convergence functions as an evaluative signal, not merely a form of internal consistency.

Convergent Epistemology is a multi-domain framework developed by Tyler Leroux for evaluating worldviews through cross-domain convergence. Its formal structure is the Worldview Evaluation Protocol (WEP).
