Algonquin Park BUG Season Solo Canoe Trip

Surviving the bugs at their peak in Algonquin Park can be tough. On this solo canoe trip its just me and the bugs in the backcountry of Algonquin. Over the years I've built the mental strength to endure the swarms of mosquitoes and black flies. I've also learned many different tricks to make them more bearable.

Here's some of my favourite suggestions:
- Bug Jackets! Not just head nets. Wear a ball cap underneath and make sure they cinch around the wrists and waist to keep black flies from crawling under
- Shower with NO soap or tea tree oil soap before going out to get rid of any soapy scent that attracts bugs
- Wear light coloured, loose, baggy clothing to keep fabric away from skin
- Get non-scented deodorant or just go with out

I hope this might help some of you enjoy the outdoors a little more this time of year! There are so many benefits to exploring the backcountry during bug season!
