'Wind Over Heaven' from 'Tales of the I Ching' by yours truly

This approximately 2-hour work is a musical response to the I Ching, with 8 Trigram and 64 hexagram (trigram-pair) sections.
In terms of composition, the 2nd (middle voice) of each trigram incorporates random elements, and forms the basis for creating the 1st and 3rd lines via the composer's toolkit (augmentation, diminution, canon, etc.) Each trigram is harmonized bar by bar, and then the quality of each line, broken (yin) or unbroken (yang), is mapped to the dynamics; louder for unbroken, and quieter for broken.
Additionally, the total number of yang (unbroken) lines (0 to 3) is mapped to the tempo; the more broken lines, the slower the tempo.
The trigrams are then paired in all combinations of 2, leading to 64 unique hexagrams, subdivided into 8 'over' series ('heaven over earth', 'thunder over water' and so on).
Each hexagram is cleaned up with the composer's toolkit, harmonized bar by bar, and assigned a new tempo depending on the total number of yang lines in the two constituent trigrams (0 to 6). The dynamics are also adjusted slightly,
In performance, the 8 trigrams, representing the DNA of the I Ching, are played first, as a prelude. They are followed by the 64 hexagrams, with the 8 macro (over) series arranged according to the traditional King Wen ordering: Heaven, earth, thunder, water, mountain, wind, fire, and lake. Within each (over) series, the 8 pairings are arranged to approximate a descent from maximum yang to minimum yang (or equivalently, an ascent from minimum yin to maximum yin).
In performance, the players can choose to perform the whole work, only one series of 8 hexagrams, (an 'over' series), or just the 'nuclear' hexagrams ('heaven over heaven', 'earth over earth', 'water over water' and so on).
