Dear friends, This is my Final Major Project: classical historical painting about migrants on three large canvas:

The Great Migration to Britain (video in two perts).
Part 1 - Preliminary perspective drawing
Part 2 - Create painting on canvas

I am finised "part 1" pencil drawing for the full size of three canvases (for the final painting).
Next step - "part 2" - to transfer the drawing to canvas and start create painting by acrylic.

CONTENT

This painting is thinking about migration without the borders that migrants have to pass through.
The English Channel (La Manche) is a route for migrants trying to reach the UK on boats.
The composition of this piece is interesting because we can see how migrants are ready to endure everything: traveling in an overcrowded boat and the risk of dying if it capsizes.
We see a variety of emotions, the sombre, unhappy, exhausted faces of the migrants in the foreground, all the horror of their journey through dangerous water on "death boats".
In the background, a British border boat.
Strong lines of waves of the English Channel, lead the eye to container ships on horisont line.
Clashing wealth and tragedy are nearby.

INSPIRATION

My work was influenced by historical paintings of great masters such as Rembrant, Bryullov. Their skill and technique is admirable.
Inspiration for this migrants project came 1 years ago, In the process of working with my project "Karl Bryullov The Last Day of Pompeii". I see catastrophe returns back to our days at the water of the English Channel.

In our time Daniel Richter (Tarifa in 2001), the German artist, is painting the catastropha subject.
We have only two similar themes: first is our works about the migrant crisis, and second is his do not want to work with one style.
Other things I don't like about his style, it's sloppy, looking like a quick sketch for a future painting, this artist did not inspire me and I do not use his techniques in my work.
STEPS CREATE ARTWORK

1. Composition
Selecting of format, canvas size.
Elements: color, shape, landscape, animals, objects.
Techniques: conservative style, simplicity in lines, chiaroscuro, acrylic paints, set of 3 canvas 110x240cm.

2. First Basic pencil sketch of objects
Distribution of figures in space and their relationship.

3. Preliminary perspective drawing
Transfering the objects on the paper of original canvas size. Start drawing from horisont line, White Rock, from top left to right.

4. Create
Transfer drawing to canvas using transfer paper.
Quick brush sketch in the transparent watercolors.
Modeling the Objects.
Colored background, the sky and water.

5. Detailed painting
Define the Shadows and Flesh Out the Reflections. Applying colors. Adding details.

RESEARCH

I am drawing a catastrophic migration crisis I am familiar with, 30 years ago the collapse of the Soviet Union and the war beginning in my republic.
Several days I walked on the coast of the English Channel for research (photo on the video). 100% concentration in observation.
In one evening at sunset on White Cliffs of Dover I looked to the coast of France, and saw ships crossing the English Channel.Many police vehicles, including trailers and medical aid vehicles, arrived on the coast.
The police fenced yellow tape off an area that warns the public that emergency services are investigating an area where some people were injured, thus prohibiting entry.
I stood and looked at this nightmare.. there was a small bouquet, somebody laid flowers on the place of the dead..
I left there closer to 12 at night.. the police continued to work there..

REFLECTION

I shure, descendants will study our history using our historical paintings. I created a project, which offers expressions of a particular moment in history: migrants crisis in our day.
Most difficult about the project was modeling objects in perspective on a large size three different canvas.
My successes: I got this project.
After I create a piece of art, there might be regrets: “I wish I had made that part of the composition more detailed, etc.”

VALUATION
This 4D video clip (1 minutes) I posted on social networks to poll the public. Rating: "Super hot!" (from Facebook users)

REFERENCE / RESEARCH WEBSITES

I have a clear vision of what I want to create, and for the drawing of an object or when drawing people, I use reference photos from newspapers for a pose, from the internet online.
