“From Fouled to Efficient 🔥 | Heat Exchanger Improvement | +20% Performance 🚀#chemicalengineering

In this project, we improved the performance of a Shell & Tube Heat Exchanger used for solvent cooling in an industrial plant (Ambala).

Initially, the exchanger was facing heavy fouling, uneven flow distribution, and high pressure drop, which reduced heat transfer efficiency and overall production.

We carried out detailed analysis including temperature data collection, heat duty calculation, and LMTD evaluation. Further validation was done using Aspen HYSYS and HTRI.

Based on this, the following improvements were implemented:
✔ Chemical cleaning and descaling of tube bundle
✔ Optimization of baffle spacing for better flow distribution
✔ Minor piping modification to increase velocity
✔ Preventive maintenance planning

After improvement:
✔ Heat transfer efficiency increased
✔ Pressure drop reduced
✔ Production improved by ~18–20%
