Dr. Sarah Wilkins-Laflamme studies social differences between individuals who are religious and those who are not, and how these dynamics are evolving in contemporary Western societies.

Sarah Wilkins-Laflamme is an associate professor in the Department of Sociology and Legal Studies at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada. She completed her DPhil (PhD equivalent) in sociology at the University of Oxford in 2015. Her research interests include quantitative methods, sociology of religion, secularisation, immigration and ethnicity, and political sociology. Dr. Wilkins-Laflamme is currently involved in a number of funded research projects, including 1) Religion, spirituality and secularity among Millennials in the U.S. and Canada; and 2) Nonreligion in a Complex Future. Material for her talk today is taken from two of her books: 1) The first published in 2020 with New York University Press, co-authored with colleague Joel Thiessen, and titled ‘None of the Above: Nonreligious Identity in the U.S. and Canada; 2) and the second forthcoming with Routledge titled ‘Religion, Spirituality and Secularity among Millennials: The Generation Shaping American and Canadian Trends.’
