Brasil 4 x 1 Italy ● 1970 World Cup Final Extended Goals & Highlights HD

The 1970 FIFA World Cup Final was played by Brasil and Italy on June 21, 1970 at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico. This final was marked as the first time that two former world champions have met in a final. Italy had already won the World Cup in 1934 and 1938, while Brasil won in 1958 and 1962.

Before the final, in Mexico, Brasil played the qualifiers against Colombia, Venezuela and Paraguay. Brasil was far superior to all its opponents, winning all 6 games, scoring 23 goals and suffering only 2. In the last game of the round Brasil defeated Paraguay 1-0 and had the largest official audience ever recorded for a game soccer, with 183,341 spectators at Maracanã.

With the third title, after 1958 and 1962, Brasil became the most champion national team at that time, surpassing Italy and Uruguay, which each had two championships. Brasil also won the right to definitively own the Jules Rimet Cup. Brasilian coach Mário Zagallo was the first to become World Cup champion as a player (1958, 1962) and coach, and Pelé ended his career playing at the World Cup as the first (and only one so far) champion three times.

Brasil opened the scoring, with Pele receiving assistance from Rivelino in the 18th minute. Roberto Boninsegna drew for Italy after a mistake by the Brasilian defense.

In the second half, Brasil's firepower and creativity was too much for the Italian side, which clung to its cautious defensive system. It was then that Gérson hit a powerful shot for the second goal, and then gave assistance to the third, with a free-kick from Pelé, which passed to Jairzinho to finish. Then, Pelé with his excellent performance, called the Italian defense to mark him and passed to captain Carlos Alberto on the right flank for the final goal. This last goal from Brasil, after a series of inverted games from left to right, is considered one of the most beautiful goals in the history of the cups. A total of 8 line players from Brasil touched the ball until captain Carlos Alberto hammered the ball in the corner of the Italian goal, after a perfect pass by Pelé.
