Downgrade Attacks Short #cybersecurity

A downgrade attack, also called a version rollback or bidding-down attack, forces two systems to abandon strong encryption and fall back to a weaker, outdated mode that exists only for backward compatibility.
The classic examples target TLS. POODLE forced connections down to SSL 3.0 to exploit a padding flaw. FREAK and Logjam tricked systems into using deliberately weakened export-grade keys that were crackable. Each one relied on the same trick: push the connection backward, then break the weaker thing.
