Tolland cockfighting bust: State seeks felony animal cruelty charges against homeowners

Newly released Connecticut State Police body camera video shows the scene inside a property on Mountain Spring Road in Tolland where 100 people were arrested in an alleged illegal cockfighting operation. Authorities say everyone at the event was charged with animal cruelty, with some also facing gambling charges.

Homeowners Elvin and Lisa Miranda appeared in court as prosecutors announced plans to seek felony-level animal cruelty charges. Investigators say they seized about $90,000 in cash and euthanized 273 birds due to their condition. State police describe the operation as the largest arrest event in modern agency history and say the investigation took months and involved multiple law enforcement and state agencies.
