Episode 1: The Desk I Couldn't Give Back
I didn’t leave teaching because of the students. I left to save the education.
For years, I believed that being a "good teacher" meant staying in the classroom no matter the cost. But as the gap between schooling and actual learning grew wider, I realized that staying was no longer an act of service—it was an act of silent agreement with a broken system.
In this debut episode of The Great Unlearning, I’m pulling back the curtain on the "Invisible Load" that is driving thousands of veteran educators out of the building. We’re moving past the "burnout" narrative to look at the logistical reality of the modern classroom: why curiosity is often sacrificed for the sake of a bell schedule, and why leaving the desk behind was the only way I could truly start teaching again.
In this episode, we discuss:
The Triage Reality: Why teachers are expected to be everything except educators.
The "Roman Empire" Moment: How standardized pacing kills the "spark" of natural curiosity.
The Bridge: Why the divide between public school staff and homeschooling families is smaller than you think.
A New Perspective: Why the "Teacher Exodus" might actually be a global realignment of how we value our children's time.
Next Week: We dive into "The Data Myth"—the multi-million dollar industry that has convinced us that numbers matter more than names.
Subscribe to join the conversation and help us reclaim the art of learning.
