Ecuador reported 9,022 positive coronavirus cases and 474 deaths Sunday.

The coronavirus pandemic continues to spread across the world with breathtaking speed and no immediate end in sight.

Anxious governments increasingly are grabbing on to the hope that those who have become sickened by this infectious disease will become immune and not pass it on to others.

However, senior World Health Organization officials say there is no evidence that people who have survived a bout of coronavirus become immune from the deadly disease.

The number of coronavirus cases rose to 2.3 million around the world Sunday.
