In Drishti IAS Current News Bulletin, we bring to you a summary of news events that happened last week. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the revamped Gyan Bharatam Mission on June 9, 2025. Which was earlier called the National Manuscript Mission. This mission is a major effort to identify, preserve, digitally secure and share manuscripts in the country. This mission was announced by the Ministry of Culture in the Union Budget 2025-26. Its main objective is to promote the Sanskrit language and the ancient knowledge system of India. Especially securing rare and important texts in digital form and preparing their metadata information will be the main work of this mission. Its goal is to survey more than one crore manuscripts from educational institutions, museums, libraries and private collections across the country, as well as to provide easy access to the people by cataloging them. Earlier the budget for this mission was ₹ 3.5 crore, which has now been increased to ₹ 60 crore. Let us tell you that the National Manuscript Mission has been started to find, protect and digitally secure old and valuable manuscripts of India. It was started in the year 2003 under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
