‘We’ve lost and the regime has won’ following ‘our belting by Beijing’

The “powerful and unchallenged” Chinese communist regime “has now taken off the gloves and really belted Australia” says Sky News host Andrew Bolt.

“We've been outplayed and (are) now punished, we were brave and now we're being slapped down,” Mr Bolt said.

China on Monday evening announced it would follow through on a threat to slap an 80 per cent tariff on Australian barley in a move that inflamed trade tensions between the two nations.

Beijing claimed the tariffs had nothing to do with Canberra’s push for an inquiry into the origins of COVID-19 and instead said they were due to concerns Australian farmers were dumping barley in their market below market value.

“Don't believe China's transparent excuse that it banned our barley for five years because it was government subsidised,” Mr Bolt said.

“It's simply not true”.

Mr Bolt also said an upcoming vote at the World Health Assembly isn’t actually “voting on what (Australia) actually wanted” into the origins of the deadly coronavirus pandemic in China.

“It looks like we've lost and China has won”.
